Detectorists
I have been reviewing the year (I know it's not quite over) but I wanted to say thank you, again, for making 2024 so wonderful!
I am jumping into plans for 2025 and already have an on-line poetry class, Duluth Folk School printmaking class (there will be more posted soon) and many more book events coming up.
I just recently discovered an older TV show from the BBC called "DETECTORISTS". It's a series with three seasons and was the most beautiful, funny, uplifting show I have seen in a very long time.
I will try not to give too much away, but Dectectorists are the people who operate metal detectors and if you are not from the UK or other parts of the world (there are many) where this is a big deal, it is, apparently, a BIG DEAL! Detectorists have discovered many historically significant finds over time. Though they spend most of their days searching without finding anything.
Dave Crisp (in 2010) found a hoard of coins from different time periods (ranging from 253 AD) worth over 320,000 pounds!
The most wonderful takeaway DETECTORISTS left me with, was that of being surrounded by unseen treasure - that at any moment, we could make a new discovery for ourselves and, indeed, the world.
Of course, I am also speaking metaphorically about what we have to offer. And I have already written the blog about Treasure Within, but I have never felt more in-tune with what wants to surface from the depths of my artistic being.
One exciting new development for me, is a recent purchase of an old etching press. It is a multi-use press exactly like the one I had planned on purchasing once I had a space to store it.
I was at the right place, at the right time to find it. While picking up my art from the Zeitgeist show in Duluth, Penny (the show coordinator) asked if I needed a press. When she told me what kind and the very reasonable price, I said yes on the spot. It was, in itself, a treasure found!
I hope you are all filled with the warmth and love of family and friends through the holidays and that you have time to do a little "detecting" within yourself to see what is waiting (perhaps JUST beneath the surface) to be brought up and shared.
See you in 2025!
