UPCOMING EVENTS

Sat. January 18, 2025

1:00-4:00

Join me at the Duluth Folk School for an afternoon of learning. If you are new to block printing, this class is for you. If you are wanting to learn a few new skills, I will address individual questions and instructions throughout the class. Bring ideas (basic sketches) in 4x6 or 3X4 sizes and an open mind. You will be amazed at what you can create!

Fri. February 7, 2025

10:00 a.m.

I can’t wait to see you at this reading from my new Poetry Collection, OF COWS AND CROWS. This event will include questions and discussion about writing and publishing poetry.

Wednesdays ZOOM Poetry Workshop Jan 29-Mar 12, 2025

In this live ZOOM Poetry workshop, we will meet weekly (7 weeks) to learn about six “ELEMENTS OF POETRY” that the instructor will highlight as tools for writing and editing your poems. While many of us write from organic, intuitive origins, at some point it is good to look at some core elements of great poetry. We will then read and discuss poems written by students in a supportive group setting, as well as observe how local and international poets use these devices. Resources for reading poetry and finding ideas for new poems will also be provided.

  • With much gratitude, I look back on 2024 (and years prior). Together we grow...

Lake Superior 2020

"A memoir in poetry written with enough distance and enormous skill to avoid every common trap of such an endeavor. Getten never flinches from the harshness of the practicality and poverty of the farm life in which she came of age in rural Minnesota and never loses a hold on the humanity of all the people we meet there. What sweetness there is never turns saccharine. The tone is pitch perfect throughout. This is an important collection simultaneously filled with the specific images of a specific life and a specific place which transcends into universal themes and is a powerful example of a way to look back on one’s life, to claim everything. These poems have been grown in a fertile field and now they are '… swollen and ripe and ready to eat.'"  - Ellie Schoenfeld, former Duluth Poet Laureate (2016-17)

2021

So excited to be part of these local pre-holiday events. This year I will be sharing a booth at Julebyen (in Knife River) with my daughter, Brighid (barn and birch woodworking). It will be the first year that I am up in the main art booth area (instead of the author tent which is not being offered this year) and I can’t wait to see many wonderful friends and art enthusiasts. The Farmer’s Market event is also a festive occasion and is being held in the new Burlington Station parking lot under a big, warm tent. I wish you all HAPPY HOLIDAYS and warm family gatherings this winter season!
