Word of the Year
Are you ready for 2021? In the beginning of 2019, I heard a couple of podcasts mention a “word” of the year. I started a new journal at that time and wrote my "word" with a sketch on the front page. I’ve since added two words (one each for 2020 and 2021) finding the progression interesting in light of how 2020 went down.
For 2019, I had chosen the word, WONDER, through which I could see the world with curiosity. I needed to take a step back from assumptions and ingrained beliefs, to look deeply at what was amazing and beautiful in my life.
Not knowing the challenges that would face us in 2020, I chose the word FAITH, which turned out to be the only thing that would carry me through the multi-dimensional havoc. I started sketching more in my journal, re-affirming how much happiness is born in the creative process.
In 2021, I will EMERGE! As our days gradually fill with more light, I feel a quickening – an imminent waking of all things lying dormant through the long winter. The upcoming year is ripe with possibility, with regenerative energy. Like the animals and plants, we are creatures of the natural world – a collective of living beings who cycle through phases of decay and rebirth.
Through difficulty, we help one another heal and become better people. I feel hopeful that we will join in common goals of wellness for ourselves, each other and our Mother Earth. Expressing ourselves creatively can be part of our self-care and overall mental health, which has a positive impact on everyone in our lives.
Whether I “emerge” slowly, or break out of my protective shell with a burst of energy, I feel strong, and ready to take on the joys and challenges of the days ahead. Find your own word of the year and Let YOUR creativity soar as weWELCOME 2021!
