I did it!
I did it! And here it is - my Getten Creative website! I reserved gettencreative.com in 2012, but kept putting off the daunting task of learning how to build it - I needed to break it down into little steps, starting by dismantling my own negative thoughts about how I couldn’t possibly do it. Debilitating voices crept up on me constantly. When I was rejected for a regional arts grant to hire a developer for my site, I gave up entirely. I believed if I wasn’t good enough for the grant, I just wasn’t good enough at my art.
But feedback and sales from art shows and returning buyers said otherwise. Friends and family were supportive through all of the ups and downs, and the myriad of arts communities in which I circulate both regionally (in Minnesota) and now online, kept me coming back to a belief that I was truly an artist, that I was capable of accomplishing any goal if I worked hard enough to get there.
I joined instagram, and was boosted by the stories of other artists. I knew that the only way to see this project through was to sit down and do it!
After reading Cory Huff’s book, How to Sell Your Art Online, I hired a branding photographer to take professional photos of me. I called on my sisters for pep talks and guidance, and certainly couldn’t have done it without the support of my wonderful life partner, Brien, and our kids - my most avid cheerleaders! Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way! I am so excited to welcome you to Getten Creative!
